[HOMESTEAD] A Very Slow Start

Shoveled, raked, fertilized and planted row after row of seeds...waited, waited, waited, cursed, waited, cursed some more, cried, silently wished a swarm of locusts to feast on other gardeners successful plots (sorry Tia)...waited AND...nothing.

After last years over the top success, this was not acceptable. So raked, shoveled and planted (once again) row after row of seeds...annnnnnnnd SUCCESS!! Phew! Still not as pretty or bountiful as last year, but it is only the beginning of July, so I'm holding out hope.

Peas, lettuces and beans are sprouting up. The peas are delicious, and the lettuce is coming along.

Lots of potatoes again this year. We did get hit with potato beetles earlier in the season, but it looks as though the plants have persevered...

The cucumbers are finally starting to grow and, hopefully, the zucchini will follow suit.

The back bed of kale, chard, collards and cabbage is having a hard time getting started, so we'll have to wait it out and see and the strawberry and raspberry patch is a never ending battle with weeds.

Man...who new gardening could be such an emotional roller coaster!!
